Star Trek Asteroids

Image

This cover art has always inspired me. It was a collaborative effort; Production Illustrator Jim Martin designed the art, executing it in a series of progressive pencil sketches. The art was subsequently turned over to freelancer Mikido Uesugi and John Knoll.

Here is my version again using GrahamTG space art and Asteroids..

Reimagined Constitution Class

Image

I could not help it, after seen a beautiful space scene by a friend GrahamTG I had to render with my reboot / re-imagined design..

Star Trek: Renders

Well now I have been busy, rendering yes and some more Star Trek using some background art by Ali Ries,  GrahamTG and dadrian to bring some energy into them, normally I don’t do action type renders but here for the first time with Phasers firing all or Klingon torpedoes evading,, 99% in Lightwave and a tiny tweaking in Photoshop..

I am going back to doing my own reimagined constitution class this week and I am going if time permits some other designs from the federation moving on to Klingons for the first time since I worked on the bridge or corridors a few years ago.

That should get star trek out of my system for a while, so I have decided to attempt the Battlestar Galactica with my approach to its detailing and arrangement.

Mixed in with some of my own designs.. stay tuned for the WIPs (Work in Progress)

I think that all for now,, … … yes that it..

Oh wait There is a possibility that 3DGladiators will be making a return.

Constitution-Class Registry Revisited 2

Someone rightly pointed out too me, that I neglected to include the USS Exeter in the other posted lists, so I have “again” revised this omission and I have added a little more information I checked out.

I cannot take any credit for the research that was done by others who I have listed the main sources I found in a few Star Trek books and websites..

But I will re-post here. click on too enlarge the image they are large

Source list
*. The Making of Star Trek, by Stephen E. Whitfield & Gene Roddenberry  1968
*. The Case of Jonathan Doe Starship by Gregory Jein April 1975
*. Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph:
*. Federation Ship Recognition Manual: FASA
*. Fan Optional build order
*. Paramount/CBS Canon list: Star Trek Encyclopedia
Debbie Mirek, Michael & Denise Okuda

Individuals whose tireless research and contributions to Star Treks expanded universe gives us much to enjoy and in my case less eye strain and a headache

D.C. Fontana
Bob Justman
Greg Jein
Ruth Berman
Debbie Mirek
Michael Okuda
Doug Drexler
Rich Sternbach
Franz Joseph
Stephen Whitfield
Bjo Trimble

Also my approach for selecting the additional names and Registry’s  is that it should appear in the original list of name suggested by D.C. Fontana and Bob Justman, also Greg Jein and Franz Joseph and official canon where possible.. but mainly to be included in the original Fontana and Justman suggestions. but if I could make changes I would rename the
VALIANT and MERRIMAC going back Fontana / Justman suggestion’s.. or go beyond that and add AmagiEuropa, Forrestal, Hermes, Searcher(?), or one I like Illustrious.

D.C. Fontana’s proposal 8 August 1967

Star Trek Chain of Attack

“Art inspired by one of my favourite Star Trek Novels”

Star Trek: Chain of Attack, Novel by Gene DeWeese

Stranded in a hostile galaxy, the Enterprise is caught up in a deadly interstellar conflict!

While mapping a series of gravitational anomalies, the USS Enterprise is suddenly hurled millions of light years through space, into a distant galaxy of scorched and lifeless worlds… into the middle of an endless interstellar war.

With no way back home, the crippled starship finds itself under relentless and suicidal attack by both warring fleets! And Captain Kirk must gamble the lives of his crew on his ability to stop a war that has raged for centuries – and ravaged a galaxy…

The Enterprise is playing host to Federation Science Council representative Doctor Jason Crandall, an irascible bureaucrat who oversaw the creation of new sensors designed to detect gateways—portals in space, which the Enterprise had previously encountered. The Enterprise is investigating the gateways when it is thrown through one, and ends up in an unknown area of space with extremely dense star formations. After trying unsuccessfully to return through the gateway, the Enterprise sets off to explore the nearby star systems, in hopes of finding the gateways’ creators, and thus a way home. However, all they find are planets rendered uninhabitable through bombardment with fusion bombs, phasers and other weapons. Finally they come across a spaceship, but rather than responding to their attempts at communication, it just attacks. Armed only with lasers, its attacks are ineffective, and so it tries to ram the Enterprise and then when this is ineffective, detonates its warp core.

Background by NASA and manipulated by a friend (Tom).. a quick render.. but the background just set the scene for me.. 2nd and 3rd have minor lighting change.. I am not trying to be picture perfect space shot but to create and interesting image for a view to enjoy.

Star Trek: Federation Space-Dock P6

I mostly just renders to show of designs. but I was goofing around with this scene and added stars and planet Epsilon III by David cgc and this was the result .. I liked it and decided to post
Starbase 13
was a Federation Starbase located on the edge of the Federation Phalanx, It also was the destination in the Star Trek Novel
Enterprise: The First Adventure It was not trying to create a real space scene as I said, I was just playing with the scene and the result was something I liked.

Star Trek: Federation Space-Dock P5

Well a little play with the title, but its my last post for these designs, for the time being, I have the need for a new project and I am looking at a few ideas, but I will be back to it in the near future.

Star Ships

Docking & Powering Down

I have wondered from time to time how I would liked to have seen the USS Enterprise or any Star Trek ship from The Original Series era, entering a space dock, in this case one inspired by Franz Joseph early designs, entering one of the 5 bays (Orbs) and then the 5 Inner docks (Connective Tube), which is how I have defined the inner sections of the facility, I do some plans sometime later.  but the outer dome area is the Bay (which there are 6 and can hold up to 3 Constitution Class ship, and in my view of Star Trek is the largest man-made vessel, no Dreadnoughts) and the inner is the Dock (6), I will have to add some kind of Dock like mechanisms.

The bussard’s, I imagine power down in set stages as the docking ship enters the inner docking area.. the colourful lights powering down first then the outer orange layer power down before it all goes to a darker shade, then nothing a silver transparency.

1. USS Enterprise approaches the Starbase
2. The USS Enterprise hands over control to dock control and under remote control.
3.  Kirk orders the Warp engines to Power Down
4. Commander Scott deactivates the Bussards and  Warp Engines
5. The reaction within the Bussards start to cool
6. Within moments the cooling has taken effect and the engines themselves are cold
7. The USS Enterprise now with Warp Power deactivated and crew can disembark,
8. It will take 30 minutes to power up to return to space and roam free.

Work in Progress

I made a few minor changes, I wanted the design to look taller and have some pylons of it own, I also have the lower section having a glowing reactor ,, not sure if I will keep it.

Star Trek: Federation Space-Dock P1

 Federation Space-dock

I have started work on a Franz Joseph inspired Space dock or Head Quarters depending on the designation you wish to give it, I also added a Matt Jefferies inspired Space-Tug that I have called a Hutzel class, named after Gary Hutzel.

Star Trek: USS Enterprise & Work-bee

USS Enterprise & Work-bee

Here is a few renders with the Enterprise and Hutzel Work-bee/Space-tug (space-tug does not sound as interesting as work-bee) scaled to their fictional scales, when I built the Enterprise I used its real measurements as much as I could,, there is some area of doubt in the height but the length and width are spot on.

I just started a space station, Franz Joseph inspired but with alterations of my own, more on that in the future..

Star Trek Bussard Test 2

Warp Bussard Test 2

A little more done, I want to isolate the Bussard’s so I now have them in their own layer, some programs like Lightwave use layers so you can exercise more control over render times which for images hardly matter, but if you’re animating its handy to be able to hide / remove if that part of the model is not needed etc.. say a hangar bay or rooms behind windows, whatever..

As this is the first time I have really tried this I think that the method is worth the time..
