2000AD’s: Dan Dare P2 “Eagle Shuttle”

2000AD and Dan Dare

Got to love the old Dan Dare comic from the 1950s but I first discovered him in 2000AD comics normally associated with Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper and many more British fictional heroes. Dan Dare was first seen in the Eagle comic 1950 to 1969 before revived again in 2000AD with a harder edge and lacking some of the character that was central to the character.

With my interest in Star Trek waning over the last few years, Star Wars and other lesser known scifi heroes are again of interest to me.. Dan is an old favourite so I might be doing more designed in the area and start looking at some of the old designs from the comic.. not sure yet.

Concept Design: Ranger Class Space Ship

For a change I am working on one of my own designs, one from 2013 called the Pathfinder, intending to be the central design in a film project I was working on with my old friend Dan Baran before his unexpected passing..

I just could not continue working on it, until now. None the less I need a change of scene and step away from Star Trek designs.

Robert McCall Space Ship Design P8 “Space Anomaly”

“Space Anomaly”

Using the same scene set-up as I used for the Star Trek renders I recently posted. I decided to swap them for the Robert McCall design I finished a few weeks ago, seemed a good scene to drop it in, I needed a break from Star Trek to recharge 🙂

Robert McCall Space Ship Design P5

Wow has it been so long since my last post, what can I say, I was ill since the holidays, stinking cold that I have just got over and almost firing on all thrusters.

Update of the McCall Class ship I have called Sagan, after one of my favourite artists and  scientist, Robert McCall (image below) and Carl Sagan, a little homage, if you where to twist my arm I would add Tyson, Einstein, Hawking, Curie, etc. its a science ship and its named after those to look at the cosmos with wonder and curiosity to unravel the mysteries.

Well, happy New Year in 2016 and if you check out my posts here from time to time I like to say thanks for dropping in again.

Ending of 2015

Nearing the end of this build before I can texture, which due to time constraints and impending days of big meals over the holiday period I am going to leave that until the new year, if Christmas is something you celebrate I say Happy Christmas, of not, Happy Holidays, or just “don’t work to hard”.

I hope that those of you who make repeat visits to my corner of the web, I thank you, and I hope to see your visits continue in 2016.

I do have a large number of projects to do in the new year ahead, some involving Star Trek as it is its the series 50th anniversary, a return to the original Enterprise, perhaps even a tutorial but in video.. but not a 100% sure, time being a factor.

I also have planed a few more original designs in line with the work I am doing at present, I hope there is more interest in Sci-fi/fantasy beyond our beloved Star Trek and Star Wars.. there has to be,, yes ?

Blake´s 7: Liberator DSV

Liberator

Deep Space Vessel

In 1978 a new British science fiction series aired on BBC 1 called Blake´s 7 and like Star Trek was very popular with science fiction fans. another common theme with Star Trek is it had a very small budget and at times looked it, but that did not detract from the top story and character development of the two main men, Blake and Avon.

The star of the show was also the Liberator, I loved the design from the moment I saw it on my TV screen back in 1978, watching with my father who had called me into the living room to watch. I liked Blake and Avon as they battled over control of the crew as they entered a guerrilla war with the Federation (what? the federation, they are the good guys in Star Trek, what happened? I remember thinking, ah innocence) the lovely Jenna, the cowardly Vila, the powerful Olag, the insightful Cally and the ships interactive computer Zen.

Worst part in the series was the destruction of the Liberator, as legend would have it, the series was not to be taken up again and so the ship was destroyed in a climatic end, once the show was renewed enter the Scorpio nice design or at least interesting, but no Liberator.

Again a design I like a lot, It was destroyed in the 3 season as far as I remember and I lost interest in the show from that point on and I was sorry that the actors playing Blake and Jenna left the show and it stopped working for me even then, as Avon needed Blake for the character to work.

Why has there been no fan film made based on Blake’s 7, I think it would be a lot easier than Star Trek
