New model completed based on another Starblazer comic No:103 ROBOTS OF DEATH July 1983 Cover art: by Keith Robson, Writer: T Stent, Interior Artist: Carlos Pino.
I tweaked the design and decided on its scale. I included in one image a scale referance with the classic USS Enterprise canon length and my other Starblazer design, Starhawk’s SpaceRider and I also included Dan Dare’s Eagle Shuttle from 2000AD the smallest vessel at 100ft
Time to dust off my Robert McCall inspried CGI model and rendered a few scenes, first two features a concept art by NASA JPL Caltech Tim Pyle for Kepler16, I love it so I had to make use of it again, fits the McCall design far better, and also Ringed planet art by Graham Gazzard aka GrahamTG on deviantart.
I have removed a number of older images, work in progress of the USS Enterprise and such which have never had any trafic worth mentioning, along with my shift away from Star Trek and other franchies like Blakes’7 which was a great distraction away from ST I have spent far to long in that universe to the point I have Star Trek fatigue, my focus will be for my own designs like the Halcyon ship, I had in mind to design a mothership for this, and currently racking my brain to remember the ideas I had at the time.
In my imagination I thought along the lines of a huge design, a few miles long design perhaps never to return to Earth once launched, a generation ship. And this Halcyon ships/shuttles would act like Space1999 Eagles 🙂 the shape of the cockpit windows now make sense, yes! (Londo Mollari voice)
Will I hope to have some early designs posted asap.
Two subjects in one morning, what a day, if your old enough some might remember the Atari game Asteroids, while I was rendering another image with this background by Graham Gazzard aka GrahamTG (you can find his art on Deviantart).
I remember my Halcyon design having the same shape as the old game Asteriods by Atari from 1979, I remember playing that game a lot as a young fella, not on the console at home but in arcades, my father managed one in the late 70s and early 80s so I’d grab the keys and click in as many credits I liked.
I am returning to my own concept designs now, I have wanted to design and build the mother ship for this design, I might even refin the Halcyon design a little, this design is also for sale on my gumroad page
More Blake’s 7 renderings Liberator and Federation Persuit ships and one with the London, the Liberator is scaled at 780 m, if you look at one of the image’s with the approching London you can see a 6ft crewman.
Also playing with background planet and nebula art created by friends who are kind enough to share, Ali Ries, Graham Gazzard whose work never fail to inspire and delight.
Large images once you click on them, none of the compression of facebook.
A number of renderings I made after altering the Series Constitution Class to look like both Pilot designs The Cage and Where No Man has Gone Before, and playing with lighting and Ali Ries Background nebula art (used with permission), I also made use of my TOS version of the Dry Dock, I also gave the USS Constitution a NX desigination and had to tweak its placement.
I also tried to create a poster for The Cage, mixed results but fun exploring the process.
I have at last finished with my version of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, I was/am looking at new projects and to help I have jumped back to an older design, I used to call the Kilkenny and on refection feel it not a name that grabs your attention, so I went back to the Pathfinder, giving it some more thought the S.S. Pathfinder, S.S. standing for “Solar Surveyor” a designation from the pages of Arthur C. Clarke book “Rendezvous with Rama” and its ship the Endeavour.
S.S. Pathfinder is a interplanetary explorer, making trips to Venus, Mercury, Mars etc in rapid time and I imagine in 100 years hence, with a crew compliment of 20 or so.
I was inspired by designs I seen over the last few years that hearken back to Isaac Asimov book covers, the David “Lucky” Starr story called “Oceans of Venus” by Ray Feibush, which I have in my book collection. and the Black Hole USS Palomino which I made a in the early 2000s.

This Lightwave3d 9.61 model is for sale hosted on gumroad the link is below
When the Enterprise attempts to penetrate a space barrier, it is damaged and creates a potentially worse problem. Two crew members, including Kirk’s best friend, gain psionic powers that are growing at exponentially. This leaves Captain Kirk with the difficult choice; either marooning them or killing before they get so powerful they lose their humanity and become truly dangerous.
William Shatner … Capt. Kirk Leonard Nimoy … Mr. Spock Gary Lockwood … Lt. Cmdr. Gary Mitchell Sally Kellerman … Dr. Elizabeth Dehner George Takei … Sulu James Doohan … Scott Andrea Dromm … Yeoman Smith Paul Carr … Lt. Lee Kelso Paul Fix … Doctor Piper
Something I have never done before, not that not true I tried years ago before getting into modelling, I created this image but first with my “series” version of the USS Enterprise, it was commented and criticise, so I adjusted my model to better show the first pilot look, but I consider that had Jeffery Hunter had remained with Star Trek for the series, the Enterprise would have looked like Kirk’s, it was a pilot just as “Where no man has gone before” is the unheard of second pilot.
It gave me great pleasure to know that Jeffery Hunter son enjoyed the one of my test images and used it on his Facebook page, I made another image that would work better, but I had a lot of fun doing something slightly different with my models, I hope you like them.
“The Cage” is the first pilot episode It was completed in early 1965
“She has an illusion and you have reality” Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike
Susan Oliver as Vina
Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock
Majel Barrett as Number One
John Hoyt as Dr. Phillip Boyce
Peter Duryea as Lieutenant José Tyler
Laurel Goodwin as Yeoman J. M. Colt
The background art Rapid Nebula by Ali Ries, you can see more of her work on deviantart via this link Casperium
Just to jump out of Trek for a bit.. Dan Dare Eagle on patrol,, using the fabulous Ali Ries Background art scene .. no prep just slapped it in there where the Enterprise was and a reminder of its scale.
The design is almost complete, modelling side of things anyway, I need a break from this to recharge my creative energy before taking on the Internal setting, as mentioned before, this will include the cockpit, corridor, small engine room, main hatch area, cargo area, then on to the land craft (but that may come first). I don’t know about texturing it yet hence the break 🙂
