Star Trek: Mixed Renders

Constitution Class

A number of renderings I made after altering the Series Constitution Class to look like both Pilot designs The Cage and Where No Man has Gone Before, and playing with lighting and Ali Ries Background nebula art (used with permission), I also made use of my TOS version of the Dry Dock, I also gave the USS Constitution a NX desigination and had to tweak its placement.

I also tried to create a poster for The Cage, mixed results but fun exploring the process.

Star Trek Constitution Reimagined Part 4

Its been a while since my last post with my rebooted or reworked Enterprise but also my PC had another fit and I was compelled to reinstall Windows, by slow steps I have reinstalled Lightwave at the last and finished the few details I had to work out on the rebooted constitution class.

I had to adjust the hangar deck height. it was too low for the deck plan I was using, I also worked out the gallery observation area and its corridor to the control booth though I did not build the corridor itself..

I never found credit to the shuttle model builder, no readme was included in the file.

The shuttle model builder is Aggi from Foundation3d

Star Trek: Renders

Well now I have been busy, rendering yes and some more Star Trek using some background art by Ali Ries,  GrahamTG and dadrian to bring some energy into them, normally I don’t do action type renders but here for the first time with Phasers firing all or Klingon torpedoes evading,, 99% in Lightwave and a tiny tweaking in Photoshop..

I am going back to doing my own reimagined constitution class this week and I am going if time permits some other designs from the federation moving on to Klingons for the first time since I worked on the bridge or corridors a few years ago.

That should get star trek out of my system for a while, so I have decided to attempt the Battlestar Galactica with my approach to its detailing and arrangement.

Mixed in with some of my own designs.. stay tuned for the WIPs (Work in Progress)

I think that all for now,, … … yes that it..

Oh wait There is a possibility that 3DGladiators will be making a return.

“Welcome to my small corner of the web”

Hello and welcome, my name is Gerard Duffy aka gmd3d, a mix of my name and interest, not very inventive but easy to remember. Feel free to look around and check out the number of science fiction designs I have worked on over the years.

You can also find my tutorial of how to build the USS Enterprise from Star Trek TOS in Lightwave3d, aimed for beginners, check under Lightwave Tutorial in the menu above, its is downloadable in PDF format and is free.

This blog features a mixed bag of designs and interests, you might find something at the side options to interest you >>>

I have made some very good friends over the years through forums, two of the remaining sites are listed below.

“All are welcome”

My CGI program of choice is Lightwave3D by Newtek, which is an excellent 3D modelling and rendering program and I’ve used it since 2006, Lightwave3d was first seen used very effectively in Babylon 5 (1994) where the producers took a bold step with this new CGI visual effect technology approach and went on to make a name for itself in the entertainment industry, though now its use has dwindled.

Science fiction and designs created for these shows have always being of interest to me from as far back as I can remember, in book or film, the stories I enjoy the most are those that shows us possible futures where technology transports us to new worlds and where humanity has grown into a space traveling society.

Star Trek: Space Void

Void in Space

Crown Nebula is by Casperium

A space anomaly appears in a sector close to Starbase18, The USS Enterprise is assigned to investigate, I remember one of James Blish novels,, Spock Must Die! where there is a barrier around Organia, while I was never really satisfied with the device, what if this is something like another version of the Doomsday Machine , the Enterprise is able to enter it finding the source.. not much but there it is.

Concept Design: The Halcyon Part 3

The Halcyon

Once again I am having to change the Blog settings and at the same time making the sections easier to navigate, namely the Star Trek section, Constitution Class, Jefferies Space-tug, etc get their own sections.. I possibly revise that a little more.

Such as the Registry work I did may go into their own subsection,.

The biggest nuisance for me that the multi images I post as collage rather than single images don’t open as I want and I hope you want to see, I render image large to fit the larger screens we enjoy these days.

So alas you will be seeing more changes to the look of the blog and I hope its for the better and quicker to navigate.

Concept Design: The Halcyon Part 2

The Halcyon

The design is as said in WIP status and some sections (Engines) maybe altered later as the design progresses and I also want to design the internal sets, cockpit, crew area, and cargo bays and I have already started on the land craft bay between the lower engines. the design stands just over 103.meters long.
I have yet to finalize the mother-ships design, but its going to be big, perhaps having fold-space abilities rather than Light-speed / Hyper-drive or Warp speeds etc..  But more on that in the future.
I hope to do a few cross sections at a later date. I hope you stay tuned
