A Family Loss
At around 5 am Irish time
26/03/2012
John A. Duffy
Passed away in his sleep after a long illness.
This is one of my favourite paintings by him.
The painting shows my beloved wife with her uncle going for a walk through the mountains on a fine summers day.
I took a photograph to save the moment, he then took the photo and using oil and canvas gave it a new more personal look.
This is a small corner of the web to remember him
John Duffy is my father and I could not be there at the end, he in Ireland with my family and I am living in Spain and while I knew he was not long for this world when we last talked, I could not get a flight too Dublin so I went to my bed tired and worn out from the last Skype chat, determined to find means to get to Dublin or Shannon the following day, around 5 am I got the call from my family that he was gone.
Rest in Peace

THE SONG OF WANDERING AENGUS
by: W.B. Yeats
Went out to the hazel wood, Because a fire was in my head, And cut and peeled a hazel wand, And hooked a berry to a thread; And when white moths were on the wing, And moth-like stars were flickering out, I dropped the berry in a stream And caught a little silver trout.
When I had laid it on the floor I went to blow the fire a-flame, But something rustled on the floor, And some one called me by my name: It had become a glimmering girl With apple blossom in her hair Who called me by my name and ran And faded through the brightening air.
Though I am old with wandering Through hollow lands and hilly lands, I will find out where she has gone, And kiss her lips and take her hands; And walk among long dappled grass, And pluck till time and times are done The silver apples of the moon, The golden apples of the sun.
It will be a while before I post more.
My condolences, Ger. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your father.
